on traditional indigenous lands
About
Stories are powerful. They create space for our imaginations to run wild. They allow us to explore and discover who we are. They are windows into brand new worlds and mirrors that reflect our truth back to us. Stories give us agency; they can empower us to be who we want to be on our own terms, but only when we control of the narrative.
For too long, the pen has been held by oppressive colonial forces who have created and manipulated history’s stories for their own benefit. While their version of events has dominated much of Western civilization, there has always been and continues to be a rich tradition of storytellers who refuse to stay silent. We seek to continue to tradition.
Queer of Colour is a storytelling platform where queer people of colour control the narrative. It is a space for them to tell their own stories on their own terms, and for the audience to listen and appreciate what is being shared.
Using interview and photographs, Queer of Colour amplifies the stories of real life people, their histories, careers, passions, and experiences as a queer person of colour in the city of Toronto and beyond.
